Moving home is said to be one of the biggest stress areas in anyone’s life. And with good reason. Letting or buying a home, selling a property is fraught with difficulties and when you get to exchange contracts and complete, there is still the stress of moving your many possessions to a new place. That stress is huge, whether you’re moving 3 miles or 300 miles and it’s always a good idea to use professionals like us for full or partial home moves.

You see when you decide to sell your home or move to a new one, there’s a whole range of property professionals who get involved – estate agents, conveyancing solicitors for both sides, valuers, surveyors, etc. The removals team come in at the end, but their importance can’t be understated.

When you’re moving home from Cheetham Hill to Crumpsall, Preston to Prestwich, Diggle to Delph, you need a team with the right people, the right vehicle and the right experience.

That’s us: Metro Man and Van, Manchester

But now on to the checklist

RENTING or SELLING

Two months before you move

  • Give notice to your landlord or letting agency, using the proper process stated in your contract. Make sure you also check how long your notice period is, since you will have to abide by that unless you have a break clause in your contract.
  • Check out the area you’re moving into further. If you have children, do they need to change schools?
  • Begin decluttering
  • Start collecting packing boxes from friends, family members, colleagues, or websites like Gumtree or Freecycle or buy them online

A month before

  • Sort out a moving company – you may want to do this after you’ve started packing and got a better idea of how much stuff you need to transport. However, it’s always good to have a few companies in mind.
  • Check how your moving van will be able to access your new and current home. Are there any access or parking restrictions at either of your addresses?
  • Redirect post and notify all contacts about your new address

On the moving day, retain the items below?

  • Important documents (e.g., passports, driving licence etc)
  • Credit cards
  • Medications
  • Phone and charger
  • Laptop and charger
  • Toilet paper
  • A change of clothes (one for each member of your household)
  • Snacks and water (for kids and pets)
  • A child’s special toy or blanket (if they can’t bear to pack it)
  • Jewellery
  • A torch
  • Tape measure
  • Toolbox
